Quick Study: Closet Goes Away

A pantry closet is removed for better flow and aesthetic.

Location: Williamsburg VA

Designer Credits: Amy Ahearn, CKD

Project Overview:

The clients needed more counter space and a better placement for their refrigerator.

The too-deep pantry closet was not an asset in this kitchen.

The island cut off the work triangle and became an obstacle.

The OTR microwave was neither desirable nor efficient.

The wall cabinets did not take advantage of the ceiling height.

Overall aesthetically the kitchen had a builder-grade vibe.

Quick Study: Closet Goes Away

The large refrigerator was moved to the old pantry space.

A pantry was created using wall cabinets and base drawers.

The center island was removed.

A large peninsula was added for much needed prep space.

A drawer microwave was built into the peninsula and out of sight.

Stacked cabinets were brought to the ceiling to maximize ceiling height.

Flow and aesthetic were much improved with a bright palette and modern amenities.
